Blogs I read: Roost

It’s time again to share another blog with you. Today I present to you: Roost. Roost is the beautiful & authentic blog from Caitlin. At her blog you will find a sampling of recipes, descriptive musings and personal chronicles. She lives in Alabama where she dreams of starting a bio-dynamic, organic farm. Three years ago Caitlin and her husband embarked on a radical journey to eliminate all sugar and processed foods from their diet to further heal her husband’s Crohn’s disease. Now he is medicine free and thriving. At Roost she wishes to encourage others to eat clean, seasonal foods that not only taste good but are healing to the body. I like this ideology and what I even love more is the way Caitlin styles her food! You get hungry immediately and everything looks so gorgeous! If you have some spare time then hop on over to her blog and see all the deliciousness that she makes.

I HAVE to go to Ikea!

Oooh I love the new papershop from Ikea! I have a thing for beautiful gift packagings & stationary and this collection really has some "want to have" items. One of my favorite wrapping paper is tissue paper, I have it in 20 different colors. But what I don't have is patterned tissue paper, so I really need to go to Ikea to get me some (or loads...) of it! But before you also run off to Ikea, be aware: they don't sell it in every Ikea store yet...

White Structures

White is a “color” that goes with everything, makes a room spatial & light and I like to use it a lot. Here are some white items with a beautiful stucture or shape. 1 Forest chair is a Design from Robby and Francesca Cantarutti. A design of great visual impact, that offers unquestionable sophistication and individuality without compromising in comfort. Forest is a small collection of seats taking its inspiration from the forms of nature. 2 Studio Job designed these plates for Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum (Royal Tichelaar Makkum, est. 1572). This is the oldest company in the Netherlands and has worldwide recognition in the field of ceramics. One day I hope one of these plates from the Biscuit collection is hanging in my living room on the wall. 3 This is the bottom view from Lamp Norm 06 of the Normann Copenhagen collection. It’s made from lamp shade foil and has a diameter from 62 cm. The lamp distributes a soft, surrounding light that works well in most rooms. Hang it over the dining room table, in the entrance hall or use it in the bedroom. 4 This Crochet Table by Marcel Wanders is one of my all time favourites. When I was studying I was fascinated by Lace. My mother once gave me a bag filled with the most beautiful pieces of Lace and I did almost everything with that Lace during my study. I made patterns from it, I used it as templates, I designed Doily window stickers, I made beautiful plastic 3D lace, I created window film with modern Lace patterns etcetera… and I made miniature furniture from the Lace which really were in te same style as this Crochet Table. So when Marcel Wanders presented this Crochet Table (and gained a lot of success with it) I felt it as a missed opportunity that I was still a student and couldn’t gain Marcel’s succes yet with my designs which were similar. It kept me busy and in that period I realised that being a good & succesful designer isn’t only about creating beautiful products, you have to be an entrepreneur as well. If you miss those commercial capacities your designs will stay hidden for the rest of the world. So I don’t only think this Crochet Table is a magnificent design it also thaught me a good lesson. And up tot this day I admire the creative and commercial talents Marcel Wanders has and the way he created his own design empire.

Window films

Here is the newest press collage I made. It's for my collection window films and I believe this is a beautiful collection. In my vision these stickers are THE perfect solution for extra privacy. Because the stickers are static you can even reuse them if you want or just place them a few inch higher/lower. I know this sounds like a real advertising pitch :-), but hey, do you blame me? I really believe in this product and love working with it. I came up with the idea of elegant window films during my study at the Design Academy (more than a decade ago!). Since the stickers are a big hit and I am very happy and thankful that I can earn my living with creating beautiful things! Just before the vacation I sent this press release, now hoping for a lot of publicity! Have a very happy weekend!
