Scholten & Baijings

I love the work from Scholten & Baijings! I love their distinctive color use, the transparancy and the layering in their work. Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings established Scholten & Baijings in 2000. Stefan is a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven and Carole Baijings is autodidact in the design field. Their designs are the result of their particular way of working with craft and tradition investigations. By forming ideas and prototypes by hand new ideas develop which can be used for the final design, for this reason the computer is only rarely used in the beginning of the development of a new design, only in the final phases. Scholten & Baijings designs for various companies including Hay (textiles & rugs), Schönbuch (coat hooks), 1616 / Arita Japan (porcelain) and even they worked on a concept car for Mini. So many different products but always recognizable as Scholten & Baijings! A design duo that the Netherlands can be proud of! Hope you like their work as much as I do, I’d love to hear what you think!

Copper!

I know it is in the air for some while, but I like it too much for not sharing with you: Copper! 1 This copper Plissélamp from Piet Hein Eek gives a modern interior a beautiful and authentic touch. 2 I came across this beautiful Pill Tube from Minimalux. The classic test tube has been reproduced in copper through the process of electroforming. Supplemented by a cork bung it provides a portable vessel for tablets, pills or your favourite mints. The Pill Tube is mirror polished. It is non-lacquered and will slowly develop an attractive natural patina. (regular polishing will prevent this if the original lustre is preferred). Minimalux is a London based design brand, founded in April 2009. 3 Tessa Kuyvenhoven from Studio Intussen used to work as a freelancer at Studio Haikje. I got to know her as a very creative and spontaneous girl. Ring Windid is one of her designs. To be honest it is made from red gold and not from copper… however it looks stunning and I couldn't leave it out of this collection of copper products. It’s from Tessa's Tactile-Textile collection, this is a series of rings inspired on textile and thread, visible and tangible in the details, made out of precious metal. Each ring is handmade and unique. Available in 14 carat yellow-, white-, or redgold and silver. 4 Who doesn’t want to ride this fabulous bike! This Copper bike comes with a copper chain and a copper bell! So all set to hit the road in a very stylish way! It's from Bart van Heesch, a talented Dutch designer. 5 This side table is a real jewel in your interior! It’s from Philipp Mainzer for E15. 6 At last this Large Conical Vase is also from Minimalux. I really love the clean lines of this vase and the beautiful color it has due the copper.

Dutch design lamps

Recently I came across these lampshades from Studio Snowpuppe. Aren’t they beautiful?, I think they look like a perfect ice cream, or a meringue! The lamps are made from paper and are available in different colors. Studio Snowpuppe is located in The Netherlands and consists out of: Nellianna van den Baard (architect), Kenneth Veenenbos (industrial designer) and Jan van den Baard (ex-furniture maker). They hope Snowpuppe lamps will make you smile and bright up your living!
